Are you listening!

The moment we get up from our beds and until we are back there again (and in fact when we are sleeping), we have this amazing ability within us, to be able to hear and listen to our surroundings, to the people around us. Listening is supposed to be our strength, something we humans can use to our advantage. But don’t you think, listening doesn’t come so easy? And why listen?

In this fast-paced age in which we are living, we are hardly listening to our own inner voices, the probability of us listening to other people or things around us is slowly getting grimmer. This world seems to be full of people ready to talk, ready to interrupt, and ready to tell their stories which they are already practicing in their heads while the others speak. We aren’t really listening to understand, we are listening to probably reply back, to pass our judgment, to tell our opinion we just built of the other person. Our egos prompt us to show our intelligence, our knowledge, and brilliance instead of being humble or kind in that moment. Buddha says - “To be kind is more important than being right. Often, what people need is not a brilliant mind that speaks, but a kind heart that listens.” If this world has enough talkers of its own already, there wouldn't be much competition on the other side, right.

So, let’s try and listen when you can. Because knowledge speaks but wisdom listens. Listen, because that may be all the other person needs right now, to face the hardship and sorrow he’s facing in his life. Listen, because you can. Your intelligence and knowledge speak for themselves, it's hard to hide them. But your silence speaks a tone, that would comfort the other person, it has the power to heal. And to heal others is nothing short of divine.

And while you do lend a listening ear to others around you, why not also listen to your inner voice which talks to you, soft and subtle, all the time. Focus on it. It's nothing else but your soul, your intuition, showing you the way to create your life. It may be the only thing allowing you to be you, asking you to be like no one else. Do not let the noise of the world deafen you to hear the divine sound of your soul. Listen and you will realize it gets stronger and stronger. In the words of Rumi - “There is a voice that doesn’t use words. Listen.”

So go ahead and listen, my friend. And remember to be careful how you are speaking to your own self, because YOU are listening. It’s more like a conversation with the universe. What if it comes true?
